Some of us really are creatures of the night.

Larks, Owls and Hummingbirds

Larks are most aware around noon, work best in the late morning and are chatty, friendly and pleasant from about 9:00 a.m to around 4:00 p.m. Owls, on the other hand, do not really get going until the afternoon, are at their most pleasant later in the day and are at their most alert after 6:00 p.m.

While this is common sense to us owls, the article goes on to explain how this “ is less a matter of choice than of genetics”.
Being bright-eyed and raring to go first thing in the morning is not just a case of how much sleep someone has had, nor is it a reflection of willpower. Genes may largely determine it.
There are also some gems in the comments. Mostly written by owls.
I long for the day when night owls can work in careers not involving nightclubs and bars without continuous sleep deprivation and without having to fight the perception of being a slacker just because people can see when we arrive but not when we leave. -Andre
