Stargate Universe

by silent

A band of soldiers, scientists and civilians are forced through a stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, The Destiny, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship’s stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them.

hrm… Start Trek Voyager, anyone? What the hell…
There’s a short video with some of the cast and some footage here.

I think by “Grittier” they mean, BSG Style… It felt like I was watching a BSG promo.
Ah well, Battlestar-Gate is better than no Stargate!

Probably my favorite warcraft pvp arena video: Lewt carries Buddhist

It’s awesome on many levels, but it also introduced me to Ronald Jenkees who is absolutely amazing.

Shower heaven…

by silent

I just had the best shower… ever…

The water pressure was perfect and the temperature dial was set between 100-110 degrees… The sad part was that it was in a hotel and not in my apartment.. I didn’t even realize I was missing it until just now.  I must move out of my apartment and into the Borgatta for the shower alone.

This is not an ad. xD

Unfortunate domain names…

by silent

New winner: Bally’s Atlantic City: ballysac.com

The previous winner was Expertsexchange.com, but I believe they hyphenated the domain a number of years ago.

On that topic, I’ve always hated the “experts-exchange” website. They pollute search results with technical questions, but you need an account to do anything further. You may think that’s genius, but I’ve never once been interested enough to register. I simply move on to the next result.

Aquarian

by silent

I love this blurb about Aquarians. I feel it in my soul.

They sometimes appear to condescend to others and take too little trouble to cultivate the acquaintance of people who do not particularly appeal to them. They do not give themselves easily – perhaps their judgment of human nature is too good for that – and are sometimes accounted cold. But once they decide that someone is worthy of their friendship or love, they can exert an almost hypnotic and irresistible mental attraction on them and will themselves become tenacious friends or lovers, ready to sacrifice everything for their partners and be faithful to them for life. However, they are sometimes disappointed emotionally because their own high personal ideals cause them to demand more of others than is reasonable. And if they are deceived their anger is terrible. If disillusioned, they do not forgive.

Aquarius, about your sign…

Success

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan

Some of us really are creatures of the night.

by silent

Larks, Owls and Hummingbirds

Larks are most aware around noon, work best in the late morning and are chatty, friendly and pleasant from about 9:00 a.m to around 4:00 p.m. Owls, on the other hand, do not really get going until the afternoon, are at their most pleasant later in the day and are at their most alert after 6:00 p.m.

While this is common sense to us owls, the article goes on to explain how this “ is less a matter of choice than of genetics”.
Being bright-eyed and raring to go first thing in the morning is not just a case of how much sleep someone has had, nor is it a reflection of willpower. Genes may largely determine it.
There are also some gems in the comments. Mostly written by owls.
I long for the day when night owls can work in careers not involving nightclubs and bars without continuous sleep deprivation and without having to fight the perception of being a slacker just because people can see when we arrive but not when we leave. -Andre
