Aquarian

by silent

I love this blurb about Aquarians. I feel it in my soul.

They sometimes appear to condescend to others and take too little trouble to cultivate the acquaintance of people who do not particularly appeal to them. They do not give themselves easily - perhaps their judgment of human nature is too good for that - and are sometimes accounted cold. But once they decide that someone is worthy of their friendship or love, they can exert an almost hypnotic and irresistible mental attraction on them and will themselves become tenacious friends or lovers, ready to sacrifice everything for their partners and be faithful to them for life. However, they are sometimes disappointed emotionally because their own high personal ideals cause them to demand more of others than is reasonable. And if they are deceived their anger is terrible. If disillusioned, they do not forgive.

Aquarius, about your sign…

Success

by silent

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” - Michael Jordan

Some of us really are creatures of the night.

Larks, Owls and Hummingbirds

Larks are most aware around noon, work best in the late morning and are chatty, friendly and pleasant from about 9:00 a.m to around 4:00 p.m. Owls, on the other hand, do not really get going until the afternoon, are at their most pleasant later in the day and are at their most alert after 6:00 p.m.

While this is common sense to us owls, the article goes on to explain how this “ is less a matter of choice than of genetics”.
Being bright-eyed and raring to go first thing in the morning is not just a case of how much sleep someone has had, nor is it a reflection of willpower. Genes may largely determine it.
There are also some gems in the comments. Mostly written by owls.
I long for the day when night owls can work in careers not involving nightclubs and bars without continuous sleep deprivation and without having to fight the perception of being a slacker just because people can see when we arrive but not when we leave. -Andre

Scifi channel changing their name to “SyFy”

by silent

SCI FI Channel to become Syfy; “Imagine Greater” is new message.

I couldn’t think of a more try-hard name change. Although, I’m not sure which is worse, the new “ownable trademark” or the tagline. The Sci-Fi channel will always have a warmspot in my heart. Despite all the painful ways in which they try to lose their audience. Horror movies featuring, *gasp*, another giant creature from the animal kingdom. Despite painful corporate meme driven name changes. It’s still scifi and I’ll still be watching… even if I am not tuning in directly these days. Hulu gives us yet another reason to avoid the TV. Corporate branding.

Nine Inch Nails - Iphone App

by silent

Trent Reznor, Rob Sheridan, Kevin Rose, and wired,  give us a sneak peak at the NIN Iphone app.  While the video focuses on the iphone app, the article has quite a few gems in it.

The free Nine Inch Nails app, scheduled for release as soon as it gets final approval from Apple, is a mobile window on all things NIN: music, photos, videos, message boards, even — thanks to a GPS-enabled feature called Nearby — the fans themselves.

“My quest in life now is to surround myself with smart, innovative people,” he [Trent Reznor] says, “instead of the gangster types who have exploited artists over the years.”
